Walking the streets of Pretoria, I often encounter many hard-working yet struggling people. Some of them do hard jobs for little money. I believe that struggle is an inherent part of life, and even helpful for growth, but nobody wakes up in the morning hoping for a struggle. Yet, here these people are, and each of them are continually struggling to make a living. I look at the bright side of the struggle through them and represent these socio-political issues by producing contemporary artworks.
My mediums include oil, acrylic and collected waste. I believe that by using collected waste I am giving it a second life. Moreover, all of the connotations of the original object are brought to bear in the artwork. My pieces are inspired by my environment, experiences and personal struggles.
