About The Creative

Sunali Narshai is a multidisciplinary artist whose work navigates themes of body, land and memory through the lens of migratory and diasporic narratives. Concerned with versatility in technique and process, Narshai works in abstract and figurative forms with a range of mediums including drawing, painting, animation, illustration, and collage.

Narshai’s work has been exhibited at the National Arts Festival in South Africa, and on the independent fringe in Cape Town and Helsinki. Her short film Laundry Man combines found photography, rotoscope animation, and moving image in a multimedia collage to trace the life of an Indian immigrant family in Apartheid South Africa. The film was a finalist for the PPC Imaginarium 2017/18, was showcased throughout South Africa, and selected for the 2019 Lift-Off Global Film Festival Online Selection. Narshai holds a BA in Fine Art from Rhodes University and is a member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia and Africa No Filter.
