Lily creates emotive abstract landscapes, as well as delicate figurative work.
Lily Brannon was born in 1992 in Johannesburg. From a young age, she experimented with all types of mediums and has grown fond of using mainly ink, red wine, and charcoal in her work. Most of her pieces explore the paradoxes of human existence. According to Lily, “it is only when we come to terms with the complexity of life that we are permitted to surrender to creative expression, true freedom, and growth”. This complex yet delicate balance between joy and hardship is revealed in most of her art. In her latest charcoal series, titled “Mindscapes”, Lily explores the challenges related to mental health and the effect of toxic thoughts on one's mental well-being.
She uses the symbol of abstract landscapes to convey a world within the human psyche. Through this series, Lily strives to reveal a space where joy, hope, and goodness can co-exist with suffering, sadness, and hopelessness. She envisions a reality where humans can learn to embrace the light and darkness of life simultaneously. Lily currently resides in Cape Town, where she is working on her career as an artist and exhibiting her work in galleries. She frequently hosts social art events and art classes to promote art and self-expression.
