Pearl Mamathuba is a forensic artist who has worked under the South African Police Service (SAPS) Forensic Unit (facial Identification) for over six years. She holds a MSc degree in Forensic Art and Facial Identification from the University of Dundee (Scotland). Her MSc research explored the effective use of face composite systems compared to traditional (sketch) composites on African faces.
Pearl is currently a PhD candidate in Forensic Art at Stellenbosch University’s Visual Arts Department. She has co-curated exhibitions at the Bag Factory studio in Johannesburg. She has also collaborated on group exhibitions, such as “Zoo City” at the Constitution Hill gallery. Her current work, “Fugitives”, which forms part of the collaborative exhibition produced under the Biography of the Uncharted People, is currently on display at Stellenbosch Museum.
