About The Creative

Odirile Makaku is a self-taught digital artist based in Johannesburg, South Africa, but originally from Pretoria. Makaku has an extensive background in design and creative work. Her body of work revolves around a repetitive cycle of personal rebirth and healing. She explores themes of patience and emotional protection as a means of bringing about balance and draws on her experiences with depression and anxiety in order to reflect on mental health issues. Through her art, she aims to normalise conversations relating to mental health issues and awareness within African communities.
