I’m Max, a writer, artist and photographer who thinks in pictures and finds colourfulways to translate them to many creative mediums. I do art with paint, pens,highlighters, markers, pencils and whatever other textual elements the piece callsfor, such as gold leaf. My writing revolves predominately around mental health,queerness and how our environments affect our social positions. After obtaining anhonours degree in film from UCT, I worked in the movie industry for several years.But I have now comefull circle back to my childhood love of more intimate creativepractises. Growing up in Greyton (WC, South Africa), I spent the first 12 years of mylife with environmental based learning, taking school based expeditions to uprootalien vegetation, cleanup rivers, class projects on the natural fynbos we found in themountains and hikes to waterfalls. As a closeted teenager, I lived near the sea inStrand (WC, South Africa) and that salt water was my haven. This influenceseverything I do. All my work is filled with ocean motifs while using visual and verbalall variety of biodiverse imagery to convey internal and external world systems.
